Let’s talk about Long Distance Relationship.
.
.
For those who don’t know, Sam is a musical theater performer and once did a cruise contract which ported out of Venice and made trips to Greece.
.
.
He booked the contract only two months into us dating which for me was something new and very unexpected. We catapulted into our first international long distance relationship on the foundation of two months of dating. Not only was it long distance, it was international long distance, and he spent all his time on a ship with zero cell service and a staggering 6 hour time difference. At the time, it was one of the most daunting experiences especially since I’ve never experienced a long distance relationship before, let alone one where he was thousands of miles away.
.
.
While it was NOT easy, and minutes felt like hours and days felt like weeks - it was one of the best things we could have done for our relationship. Our ability to communicate and our commitment to trust were all put to the test and only became stronger over time. We also became better, together, by focusing on ourselves.
.
.
Long distance is not for the faint of heart. I would not wish the pain of it on anyone - but I would highly recommend it for any couple. I truly believe we became stronger as a couple apart than we would have ever been together.
.
.
Some people say long distance relationships don’t work. That it’s impossible to stay together. But we are living proof that you can be in an international long distance relationship, for 8 months, with no service, after two months of dating and still be here 4 years later to tell the story and bring hope to those couples who might one day face the same challenge.
